Why kits wait, and the plastic comes first

A boxed device with a radio inside needs its own FCC authorization before it can be sold — even when the board inside is certified. We haven't paid for that testing yet, so kits and bundles are shown as the roadmap, and printed parts come first. You can still build the whole thing today: print the case, buy the board anywhere, and flash it free from your browser. Building your own for personal use is your own project, not a product we sold. Print-it-yourself is free, forever

Every STL, OpenSCAD source, BOM, and a flash-from-browser path are open (Apache-2.0). Kits sell convenience, never access.

Sold honestly

Only devices with released firmware will be sold, and nothing with a radio until it's authorized. The Watch and Dash displays are still in development — waitlist here, try their real firmware in the Lab today.

Small-batch, by design

A workshop, not a warehouse: batches will be small and capped, so every order is checked before it ships. A full batch means the next opens within a week.

Shipping & returns

Flat-rate US shipping at checkout (international coming later). Dead-on-arrival hardware is replaced, no questions. Unopened kits: 30-day returns. The fine print lives in Terms of Sale.

Recording other people? Know your local law

A camera or microphone that takes in a shared space — a hallway, a shared driveway, the sidewalk — can come with notice or consent rules where it is installed. You decide where your Canaries go, so checking those rules is yours to do. Our terms say the same.

Buying for a school, nonprofit, or company?

The software is free to run at any scale, forever — you only ever pay for hardware, support, or attestation. The whole who-pays-what promise lives in one canonical place: LICENSING.md.
